Working in the UK

Are you thinking of living and working in the UK? If so, we can help.
We have fantastic opportunities for both, temporary or permanent job seekers including secretaries, administrators, call centre, driving and warehouse staff, and great career opportunities for qualified Solicitors, engineers, part-qualified and qualified accountants and finance staff.

Students

If you're an international student you may not need permission to work here when you're studying. If your home country is in the EEA, or you're a Swiss national, you can work without restrictions on the type or amount of work you do.
Otherwise, you should check the visa stamp in your passport. If it says 'prohibited' you can't work in the UK. If it grants you leave to enter or remain in the UK as a student, you can work here provided you:

  • don't work more than 20 hours a week during term time, unless the employment is part of your studies or is an internship
  • don't engage in business, are not self-employed and don't provide services as a professional sports person or entertainer
  • don't take a permanent full-time position

Before you leave home

There are a number of ways that you can work in the UK, however you need to make sure that you have the ‘right to work’ before you leave home. You are entitled to work in the UK if you are in a working holidaymaker scheme, have dual nationality or partiality (British parent or grandparent), or if you are married to a British national. Find out more below.

What you need to be able to work in the UK

We are happy to register overseas job seekers who, already have work permits and are currently resident in the UK. We regret that we are unable to assist with obtaining work permits and cannot provide any guarantee of work or register job seekers prior to their arrival in the UK. We would advise that you contact the British embassy in your country for further advice about obtaining work permits.
If you have to get a visa, you'll need to be cleared by officials at a British Overseas Mission in your country of origin. Once cleared, the entry clearance certificate, or visa, will be put into your passport or travel document.

Eligibility

EU citizens have an automatic right to work in any EU country. Visitors from countries outside of the EU should view the information below.
Highly Skilled Migrants

From 29 February 2008 any highly skilled foreign national currently working in Britain who wants to extend their stay will need to apply under a new points-based system. This new point’s based system will be extended to those applying from overseas later in the year. It will not apply to citizens of EEA countries.
